Dr. Knapp is a Fellowship Anesthesiologist who has been on active staff at North York General Hospital in the Department of Anesthesiology since 1994. He is an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto, Department of Anesthesiology, and is the Director of Continuing Medical Education for the Department of Anesthesia at North York General Hospital.
He graduated from the University of Western Ontario in 1984 (BSc-Physiology & Pharmacology), McMaster University 1987 (MD). He completed Anesthesiology Residency at the University of Toronto in 1993 and obtained his Fellowship in Anesthesiology from the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC). After two further post doc fellowships in Vascular (Toronto General-6 mos.) and Pediatric Anesthesia (Hospital for Sick Children-6 mos.), he joined the staff at North York General.
He has held numerous administrative, educational and leadership positions while he has been at North York General Hospital. In addition, he has been a physician ambassador for the hospital Foundation for many years, helping to raise much needed funds for the hospital.
He was on the Executive of the OMA Section on Anesthesiology from 2003-2009 serving various roles including Vice-Chair 2006-2007.
He is a member of the U of T Department of Anesthesiology Continuing Education Committee (CME), and is the Founder of Controversies in Perioperative Medicine- an Anesthesia-based International Medical conference held every 2 year in European locations.
He is very active and enjoys golfing, skiing and biking.
